The idea is to protect the sensitive part of your tooth from contact with food or temperature changes.  The layer underneath the enamel of the tooth is called &#8220;dentin&#8221; and contains the nerve endings of the tooth.  This is why we feel pain when something comes in contact with the dentin.  Be sure to come in and see us as soon as possible.
